Photographer: Shanna Bignell
Subject: White-faced Heron (Egretta novaehollandiae)
Location: Point Arkwright, Queensland
Date: March 2014
I was at the Point Arkwright Rockpools at the north end of Yaroomba beach taking pictures of the waves crashing against the rocks, when this beautiful White-faced Heron surprised me by flying up out of the rocks and straight into the frame of my lens!
White-faced Herons are the most commonly seen herons in Australia. They are found along most of the Australian coastline as well as a large percentage of the interior.
