Photographer: Shanna Bignell
Subject: Dingo (Canis lupus dingo)
Location: Fraser Island, Queensland
Date: September 2014
Dingos are protected in Australian National Parks, and Fraser Island is home to the purest strain of dingo on the eastern Australian seaboard (or possibly even Australia-wide).
Dingos roam free across the entire island, except for tourist resorts and some camping areas which are enclosed by dingo fencing.
We saw this female on Dillingham's Road - she had a litter of pups with her but they took off into the scrub before we could get a good look. She was very bold and came right up to our car shortly after this photo was taken!
